Houria Bouteldja is spokesperson for the party Indigènes de la République (PIR) an anti-racism and anti-imperialism party. Activist against segregation resulting from the old colonial order, she became familiar to the general French public on her struggle against islamophobia. Daughter of Algerian parents, she was raised in France and identifies herself as an indigenous activist, subverting a designation often used pejoratively and using it as an expression of her Algerian heritage in the French colonial context. Bouteldja studied applied foreign languages (English and Arabic) in Lyon. Participated in the foundation of the collective Les Blédardes in reaction to the collective Ni Putes Ni Soumises. Under another collective Une école pour tous et toutes, she struggled against the law of religious symbols in school, classifying the niqab ban as neocolonial practice. She published La révolution en 2010?: Les vrais enjeux de 2007 (with Philippe Lemoine, Pierre Bellanger and Gabriel Auxemery, 2007) and Nous sommes les indigènes de la republique (com Sadri Khiari, Félix Boggio Éwanjé-Épée and Stella Magliani-Belkacem, 2012).
