(English)  The Grupo de Pesquisa Identidade e Território (GPIT) [Research Group on Identity and Territory] , of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), was created in February, 2008 with the intention of integrating graduate and post-graduate teaching, research and outreach, on the study of identity and territory issues. The studies provide two lines of research. One of epistemological ground working imagistic discursive forms as object of study. The other investigates the relationship between class and territory, in particular the spatial segregation of the poor classes and the gentrification of central areas of occupation and environmental preservation areas by the middle class.
