In the University of Brasília, at the beginning of each new semester, students are received with a lecture that is expected not only to challenge all students, but mostly to raise the curiosity of the freshmen towards the academic world. It is an open event that gathers visitors, professors, younger and older students. In this lecture Boaventura explores some of his ideas on the epistemologies of the south and the ecology of knowledges, challenging his audience with the idea of the “competent rebel”.
