(Video) Mini-Documentary of Popular Education Social Forum

Meeting on Popular Education and Universities: Experiences and Challenges (Popular Education Social Forum) in Porto Alegre, on January 16th and 17th, 2016.

Mini-Documentary:

The Popular Education Social Forum is the result of the dialogue between FLACSO Brazil, Centre for Social Studies – University of Coimbra and the Alice Project, UPMS (Popular University of Social Movements), CEAAL, CLACSO and CODESRIA, with the intention of bringing together universities with popular education activities, based on the idea that the democratisation of societies involves, necessarily, the democratisation of knowledge. In no time, many social organisations, movements, universities and governments came together to materialise what was once was just an idea. And so, a broader meeting to discuss popular education in today’s world came about. Keeping in mind that Popular Education, on the one hand, reacts to the elitism of universities, democratising access to knowledge, and, on the other, promotes dialogue between knowledges, and considering Paulo Freire’s Pedagogy of the Oppressed as a central reference, advocating education for liberation and for citizenship, this meeting was intended as an opportunity to challenge the current context of the world economic, political and social crisis in light of the practice of Popular Education (check the forum’s website: http://www.forumeducacaopopular.org/).
