Public Lectures 2014 – First Video Available
Based on work by Prof. Boaventura de Sousa Santos in recent years, this lecture prompted a presentation of the Epistemologies of the South as procedures towards the recognition and validation of the knowledge produced or to be produced by those who have systematically suffered injustices, oppression, domination and exclusion caused by capitalism, by colonialism and patriarchy. It is a knowledge based, as such, on the perspective of an ecology of knowledges, which overcome many of the cleavages instigated by modernity. In this sense, the lecture included a script historically founded on the urgency of Epistemologies South , intercultural translation and the dynamics of recognition of different forms of knowledge, enabling a fruitful dialogue with the audience through several clarifications of ontological and epistemological nature on a different reading of the social order. This lecture was held in the Auditorium of the Faculty of Economics, University of Coimbra , inaugurating the series of Master Classes by Prof. Boaventura de Sousa Santos for the current academic year. With an audience of over 200 people in the auditorium and about 300 people in the webcast .
