An extraordinary meeting of the ALICE Team has taken place in Mumbai, India, on 14th February 2018. It was participated by Professor Boaventura de Sousa Santos, ALICE Project director, four ALICE researcher carrying on research in India – Maria Paula Meneses, Bruno Sena Martins, Dhruv Pande and Cristiano Gianolla -, plus the ALICE Associate researcher from Goa: Jason Keith Fernandes.

The meeting has provided an occasion to Professor Boaventura de Sousa Santos to make an overall reflection of his recent experience of lecturing in various Indian university for about 15 days since the end of January. Professor Santos has stimulated the work of ALICE Researchers with a commentary comprehending the complexity and the challenges that such a diverse country like India offers to those who are aimed at learning with the South. Likewise all researchers gave a feedback about their field work.

Research Projects carried on by ALICE researchers in India include: Extreme Events, Catastrophes and The Racialisation of The Exploited: The Real Nature of The State (José Manuel Mendes); Spicing Life, Unpacking Struggles: Food Knowledges, Food Rights and The Possibilities of Counterhegemonic Intercultural Translation (Maria Paula Meneses); Southern Bodies in Northern Wars: Disability as Testimony of Violence (Bruno Sena Martins); Land and The Social (and Micro) Movements in Contemporary India: Diverse Trajectories, Horizontal Relations and New Patterns of Mobilization (Dhruv Pande); Beyond Transitional Justice: on Pluralist Co-Existence ‘After’ Conflict; Lessons from The South (Tshepo Madlingozi); Gandhian Democratisation: An Account Against Political Colonisation (Cristiano Gianolla).
